Things That Make Me Smile

The bluebonnets are more vibrant and beautiful than I’ve ever seen them. It’s hard not to get excited about springtime without driving by a rural country road with blurs of blue on the side.

A rousing game of Scattergories. My moderately competitive spirit is elicited by most activities, but there’s something about this particular game that amps mine up to another level.

Say Anything. When I think of the quintessential romantic gesture in any movie, my mind immediately conjures up the iconic scene of Lloyd Dobler standing outside Diane Court’s house with a boom box blaring “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel with the look of lost pride and hopeless love on his face.

The lush, pom-pom style blooms of my first bunch of hydrangeas of the season.

Bobbi Brown’s Travel Empties. A requirement for any girl on the go.

80s cover bands. Dancing carelessly under the stars and singing along to hits such as “Don’t Stop Believing” and “My Sharona” at a neighborhood celebration is a superb way to spend a spring night.

Friday the 13th. Back in high school, my friends and I had a tradition where we would gather to watch the movie on every Friday the 13th with a mountain of sugary treats within reach. Although spawning a series of sequels, nothing (especially that horrendous remake in 2009) even comes close to the original film. (photo via)

Zac Efron. After seeing the trailer for “The Lucky One”, I think this needs no explanation.

West Elm pillows. The mossy green shade is my all-time favorite color, and I love the fact that they are kind of like snowflakes – no two are the same because of the unique block printing technique used.

DVF magnets. These are the sweet reminders that keep hold of my weekly grocery list, yoga class schedule, and summer wedding invitations on my fridge.

Smythson Panama diary. I’ve been wanting one for years, and finally took the plunge when K-Force and I bought a matching pair when I was visiting NYC last fall after having the most delicious brunch at Parker Meridian. The featherweight pale blue paper is so classic and distinguished. Any purveyor of paper goods to people such as the royal family is certainly good enough for me!

Final Four weekend. I hate to brag, but I did correctly predict 75% of the final four (note to self: don’t doubt Pitino). If Kentucky and Kansas pull through with the ‘Cats defeating the Jayhawks in New Orleans on Monday night, I’ll be crowned the winner of my bracket pool.

Stacks of magazines. I’m embarassingly behind on my magazines from March, but have already received many of the April issues already. Hopefully I can make a dent in the pile while reading on my balcony while enjoying the great weather.

My favorite ring that sits pretty in an Anthropologie ring holder. You know, I’ve always wanted a guy wrapped around my finger!
